Or second, approach someone and ask what the policy on using computers not deployed by the organization for work is. So you have two options here. One, just play ignorant and do what you have been doing with your personal PC and if someone says something, just claim ignorance as that is what you have been doing for the past few years.

My bet? With what you have described about getting a new Thinkpad with a bunch of tracking software on it, they would say no, but again, I have no visibility into the company. So, it just depends on this new company that you are working for now. Some orgs will be OK with you working on your own machine as long as the work gets done, others will put the kabosh on it faster than you can say 'personal pc'. This situation is completely, 110% dependent on the organization. I was working with an organization recently that is going through something very, very similar to what you are describing and have worked with other organizations in the past that have dealt with this. But do I have to worry about it the other directions? I already know I shouldn't use my work computer for personal work, don't want them to try and claim ownership of something I built on my own time because I wrote one line of code for it on my work computer once. But we were recently bought out by a much larger company, so things are definitely get more formal. All of my work involves remoting into customer VMs and things, so for the most part I'm not even doing any 'work' on my computer itself. I know I could get a KVM or something if I really need to, but haven't gotten around to it yet because, so far, it hasn't really been an issue. It's got a nice ergonomic mechanical keyboard, a big ultrawide monitor (and a second one on the side), etc etc. But when I'm at home I just prefer to work from my personal computer. It's great for when I go onsite and all that.
